Concept of Lagging and Leading

⇒  1st of all choose your reference phasor ( either voltage V or current I )

  • Lagging : In Clockwise direction from reference phasor (Negative angle is taken in clockwise direction from the reference).
  • Leading : In anticlockwise direction from reference phasor (Positive angle is taken in anticlockwise direction from the reference phasor).
  • Unity power factor : In direction of the reference phasor.

  •  Power factor angle : It is the angle between voltage and current phasor, measured by taking voltage V as reference phasor always.

So if current is lagging voltage, nature of power factor will be lagging or if current is leading voltage, nature will be leading.
